jeremiah 1

19 They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD.

going back to one of my all-time favorite books of the bible. jeremiah. it means that "yahweh exists." the beauty of this book and the reason why i cherish it so much is that it reveals how caring our God is. it reveals how He knows each and everyone of His children by name and has a plan for every one of us.

God calls jeremiah and challenges him and his faith. Jeremiah fears, as God appoints him as the prophet to not only his people, but to the rest of the nations. one of the biggest factors that jeremiah looks at is age. he claims that he's too young to obey God's commands. what's probably going through his mind is, "how am i, just one person, expected to make a difference?" the catch here, however, is that he's not expected to make a significant impact; his one big test is to place all his trust in the Lord and have faith that He will speak through jeremiah, as he approaches the people. even as i'm serving in cornerstone, i can't believe that next year, i'm going to be one of the oldest leaders.. i still feel so naive and young. but it's through this realization of the insuffiency that is going to keep me humble throughout my service to God; this keeps me heavily dependent on my Father in Heaven, knowing that i cannot do it myself.

secondly,, "branch of an almond tree..." just as john states in the new testament, He is our vine, and we are His branches. He cuts off every sinful part of us. we are non-existant without HIm. at the same time, we gotta keep these branches growing... to the point where HIs trees are full of branches and believers. this is jeremiah's motivation. and let's make this our motivation.
