this narrow path

1 john 4:18

¹⁸ There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.


this verse is amongst the passage in 1 john where it talks about God's love and the way in which we are commanded to love as well. what makes us fear love? (forgive me for steering into another direction... but the ideas laid out in this entry are the first ideas that popped into my head as i was reading this verse, even though it might not be as relevant to it.) for me, my fear is that i might mistake something that i THOUGHT was love from the real thing. i've never claimed i was in love so i dont know what this state of being is like.. but i most definitely hear it all the time from my friends who have been or are in serious relationships. 99% of the time, however,, they eventually end. can love really die like that between two people?!

before answering that,, does God's love for us ever die?..

now let me ask you once more:: can love really die between two people?

honestly, if that love was fake, then yeah, it'll die. but if that love is real between the two, then there is no such thing as breaking up.. kinda like GOd's love for us. there is no such thing as fear when it comes to His love. sure there's gonna be rocky times, maybe a couple heartbreaks here and there between the two people who are in real love,.. but it's like that with our relationships with GOd-- we have our ups and downs within our spiritual lives. and we do tend to break HIs heart a lotttttttt when we sin. but at the same time, perfect love drives out fear.. if we accept God's love for us, there's no need for fear because we know that if all else fails and no one is left to love us, He will. bottom line-- there is no such thing as fear when it comes to the heart of love.
