Psalm 119:10
10With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
-English standard version.
Ever read psalm 119? or ever skimmed through it perhaps? i love david's genuineness as he praises GOd and the wonders of HIs word - or even his selfless commitments to living upon God's commandments. my focus tonight is the first part of this verse - "with my whole heart, i seek you" - something about the word "whole" just penetrates deep within me. as i'm living this christian life, how much of my heart is geneuinely seeking after God and how much of it is seeking other things? well, for david, his whole heart was in it.. or as the NIV says, "all of his heart." not just a part of it. you're whether all in, or all out. for me? i've been trying to seek happiness for myself rather than seeking God.
David's got his head on straight - part 1: he's seeking God and a relationship with him. this isn't about david himself.. this is about God. part 2: he prays that he won't be led astray from God's commands, wanting to live a holy life. he realizes that our purpose in life is to wholeheartedly seek God. nothing else.
none of us are perfect. but that's when prayer is proved to be so powerful. it's inevitable that we might astray sometimes, but if we pray the way david did, there's no doubt that God's mighty strong hand will reach down and put us back on track.
