jeremiah 5:21-22 "21 Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear: 22 Should you not fear me?” declares the LORD. “Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it."

hello blog. it's been a while.
16 And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. -Matthew 6:16
soo for lent this year, i gave up something in which i had doubts about whether i'll make it through the end. lacking a little bit of confidence, but that just means i have to be on my feet and watch what i'm doing even more carefully. this is my fasting for this period.
i heard a sermon this past sunday on this passage and the pastor pointed out how you're not fasting unless there is spiritual growth. you're not fasting unless you pray. sure, it may be easy to go through the next month and a half without going on facebook or omitting chocolate consumption, etc. but how is this benefiting your relationship with God?
around this time last year, i fasted for a few days. the process itself is difficult. but at the end of the day, there was no better feeling and i had the biggest smile on my face.
one of the most important things about fasting though, is that it's a secret between me and God. just as it says in Matthews.. if i do it to receive admiration from others, that's the only prize i'll be getting. what i really want, however, is a stronger foundation with Him.

1 corinthians 12: 12-31
But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
lately, i've been so encouraged by the freshmen class. i've never seen such a dedicated/committed group of servants before! one of the unique aspects about this group is how much accountability has been going around amongst one another. this is all purely due to the fact that they wanna help each other. they've been making bets with one another practicing self control-- "if you don't drink for a month, i won't go on facebook for a month..." or other aspects of life they need self control over. in extreme cases, forbidding one another of eating froyo is involved lol. in addition, just the idea that they're openly asking one another if they've been doing their qts lately and praying for one another has been contagious amongst this group.
they've really been fulfilling their duties as christians to live out what the gospel demands of them. clear case in point,,, if one part of the church suffers, we all suffer. together.
it's amazing to see God working like this. it makes me wanna do more as a servant and it encourages me to read and pray more as well. i really couldn't help smiling today because of it =]

jeremiah 3
5 will you always be angry? Will your wrath continue forever?' This is how you talk, but you do all the evil you can.”
--there's so much truth to this. we love evil. we love committing sin. and we do all that we can, even when we know that God is watching over us and know that He is not pleased with what He is seeing in our hearts. these desires stir within us and lead to unfaithfulness, which is what God is trying to render with the people of Judah and Israel. He is trying to pull HIs people back to worshiping Him after repenting of their sins. verse 22 reveals God's compassion as He promises them that He will cure them. with that, they surrender to HIm and tell Him that they will come.

exodus 13:3
3 Then Moses said to the people, “Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the LORD brought you out of it with a mighty hand. Eat nothing containing yeast.
God is good. He saves us even in the toughest of times. He has been my best friend- the One who won't get tired of hearing about the same burdens over and over again; the ONe who doesn't judge; the ONe i know i can vent out on when times get hard... something i've actually been doing a lot recently. thanks God =]
